Twitter

This week on Awesome Geek I am going to blog about 5 different websites and applications that I use in my daily routine – and firmly believe everyone else should too, especially the geeks who are awesome out there.

I will keep this brief. You need to get on twitter if you aren’t already. If you are already, first I hope you follow me and that you make the most of what you are apart of. You get out of twitter what you put into it. Following people is not enough, twitter is a two way street and therefore replies are necessary if you want the full experience.

Follow everyone that interests you, follow celebrities you like, follow information centers that can provide you with up to the minute news within 140 characters. You need to cultivate a stream of people that you enjoy reading, not following and cluttering up your list because you should. You only have yourself to blame if you don’t like what you read, the service allows you to absorb as much or as little as you please.

Take advantage of the countless different desktop and mobile clients out there that allow you to access your followers and stream easily, as well as categorise who you follow if you are a power user. I personally try to stick near my Dunbar Number so that I don’t get too overwhelmed, but that is just my personal preference.

The Awesome Geek is an avid twitter user because it has provided a simple and clean way for people to connect and link their various projects found on the internet, be it a business, a blog or just a really good joke.
